Harry Potter was written to become a film series. I worked on many book to films which includes the Jack Ryan series.
I disagree, thinking Harry Potter was written simply to be written as a series of novels and not intended for film as you boast. The film concept came after. The book-to-film process or “adaptation” isn’t favorable in my opinion. A lot of information is left out, and I find–most of the time–the original text is not done justice.
I worked on the spec script, plot and character development for Harry Potter before it was turned over to the woman who goes by the pen name J.K. Rowling. I’ve worked in the entertainment industry since 1983 developing many characters for books to films and this includes Harry which was fully intended to be a film.
Many in the industry found they do not have to deal with legal issues, authors refusing to have their books being developed, or large demands for money if we developed it and hire the writers.
