The Beast and Dragon, Adored

Yesterday, blogger Mark Bialczak nominated me for The Dragon’s Loyalty Award, and I am grateful for this recognition.  So, thank you, Mark.  I’m going to say, again, that it’s a pleasure to have crossed paths and to have shaken this writer’s hand.

A post isn’t the same without some music, and this song quickly came to mind due to the reaction towards the title of the award.  Plus, Spoon is one of my favorite rock bands.

And here we go…

Section 1: Directions for you to accept the Dragon’s Loyalty Award.

1. Display to Award on your blog.
2. Announce your win with a post and thank the blogger who awarded you.
3. Present 15 deserving bloggers with the award.
4. Link your awardees in the post and let them know of their being awarded.
5. Write seven interesting things about yourself.

Section 2: Seven interesting things about me.

It’s hard to pick out seven things that you may not know about me, and that can be designated as interesting.

1.  I was born on my mother’s father’s birthday. (My brother was born on my father’s father’s birthday.)

2.  I don’t remember if my first concert was (a) Blood, Sweat & Tears or (b) Emerson, Lake, and Palmer opening for Jethro Tull

3.  I rarely drink soda, and stopped in 2003, because of giving the drink up for Lent. (Soda-free since 2003!)  My annual consumption is probably between the size of a Dixie Cup.

4.  Branching off of #3:  I like to be cheesy and create rhymed sayings whenever possible.  As another example, my voice mail message:  You’ve reached the phone of Chris Malone. Please leave a message after the tone.  It’s been the same since 2005.

5.  A favorite book that I’ve read a few times and have always thoroughly enjoyed is a book probably no one would expect:  Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe.

6.  My favorite quote of the moment:  “Remember this–if you shut your mouth, you have your choice.”  – F. Scott Fitzgerald

7.  Favorite Muppets:  Sweetums, the duo of Statler and Waldorf (can’t have one without the other), and Bobo the Bear.

Section 3: I’m awarding this Dragon’s Loyalty Award to these people and in no particular order… except alphabetical…

  1. Very cool about the birthdays and very odd about Things Fall Apart. I had to read that in college and don’t remember a thing about it.

Good job on the soda. I need to go to DCA (Diet Cokists Anonymous)

    1. When I was at my friend’s kid’s birthday party the other day, I was eyeing a pitcher of orange soda/pop like nobody’s business. She was eyeballing me back, but I couldn’t commit.

If you need a sponsor at DCA, I’ll gladly step in. I can be present at the meetings via Skype.

  2. Thank you Christopher! You made my day. 🙂 I’m dying over your #1…what a coincidence! And we share a love of rhyming. If I was talented enough, I’d only rhyme whenever I opened my mouth. But if that was the case, I’d be rhyming incessantly because I never shut up. EVER! Cheers to you!

    1. You are welcome!

You should start rhyming. Practice with Ted, he can’t talk back about whether he likes it or not. Show off to your friends when it’s later into an evening.

Geez… rhyming would have been a great New Year’s resolution… better yet… talking in iambic pentameter and rhyming.

      2014: Year of the Shakespeare.

      1. Rhyming would have been a fantastic New Year’s resolution! But in regard to practicing, Ted will be the perfect audience, as he is impressed by nothing, forcing me to practice 24/7 or at least until he utters a meow….

  3. As always, thank you so much! I’ll have to work on this tomorrow during my (hopefully) snow day.

And I agree with everyone else. I LOVE the rhymes. I do the same thing but I try to rap. Needless to say, I haven’t quit my day job.

      1. 😀

Have to keep my hand in, just at a lesser extent for a while ! … rescued my Intro to impro book, so will have a read hopefully get some ideas for future impro projects 🙂

  4. Birthdays sure do have a funny way of coming about! My brother and I share the same birthday even though he’s four years younger! And my other brother and grandpa have the same birthday, too! But thank you for the award!

  5. OooOooo I love Spoon, started listening to them in China, the land of free music downloads and various piracies. Congrats on the award, that dragon looks so dang cuddly. And! I like that you rhyme. You should write one for me. Because I’m needy like that.

    1. You’re soooo not needy… but then again, we just read each other. You don’t come across like that.

(I’m currently in the middle of your last chapter.)

However, I’ll try to write some funky fresh rhyme for you in the meantime. I owe ya.

(Oh, crud! That rhymed and I didn’t even think about it! See!)
